Values-Based Strategic Planning, Level One, Level Two, and Level Three

Facilitating Organization and Name of Facilitator: Soderquist Center for Leadership and Ethics, Facilitators TBD

Location: Greystone Estate, Beaver Lake

Day of Week, Date, and Time:  Monday-Friday, Date TBD by Organization

Targeted Audience: The leadership of one (1) not-for-profit organization which is functioning at a healthy level, but finds itself lacking the foundational components of a robust and sustainable strategic plan.

Program Description: Values-Based Strategic Planning is a three level program which combines traditional and non-traditional approaches to organizational planning.  Values-Based Strategic Planning advocates that values are not only a component of strategic planning, but a foundational component which all other components build upon.  Values-Based Strategic Planning is conducted with a multi-level approach. Level One Values-Based Strategic Planning lays the critical components, mission, vision and values.  Level Two Values-Based Strategic Planning places a layer of robust and progressive initiatives on top of the foundational components.  Level Three Values-Based Strategic Planning brings in very specific action items, responsibilities and timing for action plans which support the Level Two components.

Note:  Level One, Values-Based Planning is a pre-requisite of the Level Two Session.  Level Two is a pre-requisite of Level Three.  If all Level One components are already successfully in place, the organization may waive the Level One requirement. (Final decision for waiving the pre-requisite session resides with the Soderquist Facilitator).

Program Goals/Objectives/Outcomes:

  • Level One Goal:

Level One is a 1 ½ day program designed to establish the organization’s foundational planning components (mission, vision and values).  This is the pre-requisite session for Levels Two and Three if an organization has not already developed and successfully deployed their foundational planning components (mission, vision, values).

  • Level One Objectives:
  • Develop a purpose-centered mission statement which all stakeholders will understand and embrace.
  • Establish a set of values and principles to live and work by, which act as guides for all who work with the organization.
  • Determine a vision of what and where the organization will be in the near term, which acts as a lighthouse drawing the members together in their efforts to succeed.
  • Develop a comprehensive communication plan for all stakeholders, covering the outcomes of the session.
  • Level Two Goal:

Level Two is a 2 day program designed to establish the organization’s objectives, goals, strategies and measures which support the Level One foundational components.  This is the pre-requisite session for Level Three.

  • Level Two Objectives:
  • Develop major organizational objectives which support the vision established in Level One.
  • Develop goals and targets which support the organizational objectives.
  • Develop strategies which describe how the organization will achieve the goals and targets.
  • Establish measures which display numerical progress towards the goals.
  • Develop a comprehensive communication plan for all stakeholders, covering the outcomes of the session.
  • Level Three Goal:

Level Three is a 1 day program designed to establish the organization’s Action Plans and Accountabilities supporting the established Strategies.

  • Level Three Objectives:
  • Develop organizational Action Plans supporting the various Strategies.
  • Develop a comprehensive Communication Plan for all Stakeholders, covering the outcomes of the session.
