2008 Capacity Building Programs

In 2007, Care Foundation offered seventeen capacity building programs. Each program addressed topics that were identified in our 2005 nonprofit capacity survey. As our year of implementation drew to a close, a universal survey of the programs was conducted by the Survey Research Center at the University of Arkansas. A 4-page summary of the evaluation is available here.

In our commitment to strengthen the performance and impact of our local nonprofit community, we are pleased to announce eight continuing and eight new programs. Once again, Care Foundation has designated funds to cover between 80% and 100% of the program costs; thereby, making capacity building more affordable to you - our local nonprofit organizations.

There are a maximum number of participants for each program. We recommend you contact the appropriate facilitator as soon as possible to get your name on the lists they are compiling. (Please note: Program facilitators - not Care Foundation - are gathering potential participant information.) After the deadline for each program, every interested person will be notified as to whether or not they've been approved, and if so, how to proceed with registration, payment, etc. Many program deadlines are only a few weeks away, so we encourage you to act quickly.

Programs are presented below by topic. Click on each program title for additional information. You will need to indicate your interest for each program in which you would like to participate. If you are particularly interested in a category, you may click on the category to be taken directly to those specific trainings.

  • Make a difficult decision about the strategic direction and future of the organization (looking at vision, mission, values, goals, services, etc.);
  • Resolve internal or external conflicts (between staff members, clients, board, other influencers or decision-makers);

Evaluation

Beyond Evaluations: Transforming Outcomes Into Funding
Facilitated by:
Tom Ralser, CFA
President,
Capital Strategists Group
Nonprofits, like their for-profit counterparts, must do one thing:

deliver outcomes their investors value.

The challenge is translating the good work that nonprofits do into the concepts and terms that funders understand. All too often, nonprofits think that by describing the outcomes they produce, potential funders will automatically appreciate what they do and therefore fund them. With all of the nonprofits out there asking for money, this is simply unrealistic. Today's funders have the leverage to demand a higher level of accountability, which is best communicated through outcomes. The better these outcomes are demonstrated, valued, and communicated, the more likely it is that dollars will follow.

All organizations will develop an Organizational Value Proposition (OVP), with $750 and $500 awarded for the two best OVPs developed during the program.

Group Session I

Leadership/Manager Training

Dates and Time:
Group Session I
March 11 1pm - 5pm AND
